Gone are the days when space travel was reserved for a select few astronauts. Space tourism has been a topic of fascination for decades, but until recently it was only accessible to trained astronauts who were selected by national space agencies. With advancements in technology and the emergence of private space companies, the space tourism industry has seen significant growth in recent years.

For anyone with the means and the desire to experience space, it is now a reality. With the private space companies, like Blue Origin and SpaceX, make it possible. Other companies such as Virgin Galactic, Boeing, and Sierra Nevada Corporation are also making strides in the space tourism industry.

Leading the way in American Space Tourism are two companies, Blue Origin and SpaceX. Blue Origin, founded by Jeff Bezos, offers suborbital flights that allow customers to experience weightlessness for a few minutes and see the curvature of the earth. The company has also announced plans for orbital trips in the future. On the other hand, SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, is offering suborbital flights with a different focus. The company aims to make space accessible and affordable for everyone, and has plans for lunar and Mars missions in the future.

Virgin Galactic, founded by Richard Branson, offers suborbital flights that allow passengers to experience a few minutes of weightlessness and see the curvature of the earth, very similar to Blue Origin, founded by Jeff Bezos. The company has been working on developing its spacecraft for years, and recently completed its first successful crewed flight in July 2021. The company had plans to begin commercial flights in the second quarter 2023, and has already sold tickets to over 600 customers.

Boeing, one of the largest aerospace companies in the world, is also working on its own space tourism program. The company is developing the CST-100 Starliner spacecraft, which will be capable of carrying up to seven passengers to the International Space Station (ISS). While these flights are not strictly "tourism" as they are primarily intended for scientific research and ISS crew rotations, they do offer an opportunity for private citizens to experience space travel.

Sierra Nevada Corporation is another company working on developing a spacecraft for space tourism. Their Dream Chaser spacecraft is designed to carry up to seven passengers to low Earth orbit, and is currently in the testing phase. The company has announced plans to launch its first crewed flight in 2024.

In addition to these companies, there are also a number of startups and smaller companies working on developing space tourism technologies. For example, Space Adventures has arranged eight private trips to the ISS for wealthy individuals since 2001, though it has not offered any flights since 2019. Axiom Space is working on developing a private space station that will be available for commercial use, including space tourism.

However, a trip to space does come at a cost. Space tourism trips can range anywhere from 200,000 to 250,000 dollars, depending on the company and the type of flight. And while anyone can technically book a space tourism trip as long as they meet the medical and physical requirements set by the companies, it is currently only accessible to a select few with deep pockets.

While the cost of space tourism is currently prohibitively high for most people, it is worth noting that the cost of space travel has been decreasing over time. In the early days of spaceflight, a single launch could cost billions of dollars. Today, companies like SpaceX are able to launch rockets for a fraction of that cost. As the industry continues to grow and develop, it is likely that the cost of space tourism will continue to decrease.

If you're interested in taking a trip to space, be prepared to undergo extensive training and preparation. You'll learn how to function in zero-gravity, and be briefed on the safety procedures. During the flight, you'll experience several stages of flight, from ascent, through the peak of your trajectory and then descent. The peak of your trajectory will be the highlight of the flight, as you will be able to float freely in zero-gravity for several minutes. You'll also get the chance to see the earth from a unique perspective, with stunning views of the planet from above. The view of the earth from space has been described as life-changing, and it's easy to see why.

Despite the high cost, the future of space tourism looks bright. With advancements in technology and private space companies working to make space accessible for everyone, we can hope that in the future, space tourism will become more affordable and accessible to the masses.

American space tourism is a reality that offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those with the means and the desire to experience it. While it is currently only accessible to a select few, advancements in technology and the efforts of private space companies offer hope for a future where space tourism will become more accessible to everyone.
